The ways are perfect and have no rust on them. I am rearranging my shop and reducing my foot print. This is a very good running lathe. If you are a turner you can turn on it and if you are a beginner I will turn on it to demonstrate that it runs well and smoothly. You can turn the head stock to any angle you want. If you turn it 180 degrees you can get an outrigger and turn larger than 16”. You can also get a bed extension to make it a 44” bed. You can add bed extensions as far as you want. This is a medium duty lathe that can handle large bowls (16”) but you can turn pens and spindle projects as well. The Nova 1624II lathe is very versatile and would be a good starter lathe. It is a 1.5 HP motor. You can get a 10/12 Inch lathe but most people out grow those pretty quickly. If you already have a smaller lathe this would be a great upgrade. These lathes are no Powermatic but for the price you get a fantastic return on investment. No doubt a Powermatic would be nice but they are from $4000.00-8000.00 and are well beyond most peoples hobby budget. This Nova is in a sweet spot between mini lathes and the big expensive lathes.
